Job Aid

The following job aid is available for help in sequencing performance objectives and ultimately the instruction itself. Before using the job aid be sure to read this entire section.

Overview

Sequencing Instruction ensures that learners are introduced systematically to what they must know or do to perform competently. The resulting sequence of objectives becomes the basis for the instructional outline or syllabus.

Approaches

There are nine approaches to sequencing instruction (performance objectives):

  • Chronological sequencing
  • Topical sequencing
  • Whole-to-part sequencing
  • Part-to-whole sequencing
  • Known-to-unknown sequencing
  • Unknown-to-known sequencing
  • Step-by-step sequencing
  • Par-to-part-to-part sequencing
  • General-to-specific sequencing
