Soil Technology Programs and Applications (000039)
Overview
This training will provide soil scientists with
skills needed to furnish and explain the correct soil information to other
disciplines and land use decision-makers to assist them in implementing
sound NRCS programs and making informed land use decisions.
Objectives
Upon completion of this training, participants will
be able to:
- adequately explain to other NRCS disciplines and land
use decision-makers the interrelationship
of soil properties to soil behavior
- furnish and explain to other disciplines, soil
information that enables the user to make informed decisions about program
needs and land use
- analyze national soil interpretations generated in
NASIS and modify them to meet state or local interpretations needed to
meet customer expectations.
- explain the ethical issues involved in providing
assistance to land users outside of the workplace
- list new technologies available for gathering and
providing soil information to our diverse array of clientele
- explain criteria needed to determine wetland
delineations and discuss the concept of
- mitigation for wetland conversion and restoration
- explain the roles and responsibilities of technical
soil services soil scientists in assisting NRCS and others
Prerequisites
Basic Soil Survey - Field and Lab or 3 years mapping
experience
Duration
1 Week
Target Audience
State Office and Area/Resource Soil Scientists, and
Soil Survey Project Leaders at the GS-09 through GS-13 levels
who are or will be responsible for delivering Technical Soil Services.
