Extending Outreach to All Customers (C) (NRCS-NEDC-000247)

Overview

This course will provide students with the knowledge, skills, and attitude to effectively serve and meet NRCS customers’ needs; as well as to comply with policies and laws such as OMB & OIG requirements to educate field employees about extending outreach to all NRCS customers. The course will allow students to develop and implement Outreach plan, track and document Outreach activities, establish relationship with community influencers and community base organizations (CBO) including non-government organizations (NGO), conduct Outreach training and guidance to their staff and District Conservationists (DC), and disseminate Outreach information to the public..

Objectives

Upon completion of this training, participants will be able to:

  • explain the rationale for National Outreach training.
  • identify underserved customers and recognize their social and cultural characteristics.
  • identify existing management tools and cite examples of their use to national outreach.
  • acquire literacy about history that connects Outreach to the origin of the NRCS
  • develop an Outreach Plan
  • discriminate between Civil Rights (CR) and Outreach
  • increase awareness of individual Outreach role and responsibility
  • systematically conduct and evaluate outreach
  • recognize Outreach and its connection to federal oversight (OIG & General Accounting Office [GAO]
  • recognize laws that support Outreach
  • assess personal strengths and weaknesses related to Outreach
  • empower and educate others conducting outreach
  • recognize a successful outreach project or activity
  • use the skills of conservation planning to do outreach
  • create outreach network
