Linked below are learning opportunities that may be of benefit to NRCS employees.  They are listed in alphabetical order. Please review the description before enrolling.

  • Global Change: Our Environment in Transition

NRCS and Iowa State University are collaborating to offer a new internet course: Global Change: Our Environment in Transition. The course is a 3 hour upper division/graduate offering especially designed for active NRCS professionals at the state, regional and national level. There is no tuition charge for approved NRCS staff. Course materials and applications may be found at:

  • Introduction to ArcGIS 1 (for ArcView8, ArcEditor 8 and ArcInfo 8)

This three-day course is taught by NRCS ESRI authorized instructors. It introduces students to ArcGIS and provides the foundation for becoming a successful ArcView 8, ArcEditor 8, or ArcInfo 8 user. Participants learn how to use ArcMap, ArcCatalog, and ArcToolbox and explore how these applications work together to provide a complete GIS software solution. The course covers fundamental GIS concepts as well as how to create, edit, and work with georeferenced spatial data. Attendees learn how to manipulate tabular data, query a GIS database, and present data clearly and efficiently using maps and charts.  In addition to the formal ESRI Introduction to ArcGIS I course, advanced topics are introduced such as ArcSDE (Spatial Database Engine), ArcIMS (Internet Map Server), GPS/GIS integration (ArcPad 6.0), Spatial Analyst, and others. These supplemental modules are designed for specific NRCS applications.

  • The GOV Online Learning Center 

The GOV ONLINE LEARNING CENTER is a Government-wide resource that supports development of the Federal workforce through simplified and one-stop access to high quality e-Training products and services. The creation of this Center is the first phase of the President's Management Agenda e-Training Initiative and will continue to grow with the addition of products and services that meet the common needs of the workforce.
