Hydrology Training Series Module 207 Hydrograph Development (NRCS-NEDC-000103)

Overview

This module describes the use of hydrographs, explains the unit hydrograph theory, derives the peak rate equation, and discusses how the unit hydrograph is used to develop composite flood hydrographs.

Objectives

Upon completion of this module, participants will be able to:

  • describe the use of hydrographs in NRCS programs
  • explain the Unit Hydrograph Theory
  • derive the peak rate equation
  • explain how to develop composite flood hydrographs

Prerequisites

Modules 107, Hydrograph Development, or its equivalent is recommended, but not required.

Duration

Participant should take as long as necessary to complete the module. Training time for this module is approximately eight hours

Target Audience

This module is intended for all engineers, area-level technicians and others who need to understand hydrograph development

Method of Completion

This module is self-study, but the requesting office should select a resource person to answer any questions that the participant’s supervisor is unable to answer

The NRCS eLearning Center is an application used by the NEDC to manage self study learning opportunities and Web-based tests.  It has a number of features including printable certificates and options to email results of tests to your supervisor.  Additional features such as automatically updating training records will be added soon.

Once you initially login to the NRCS eLearning Center, it is not necessary to login again to return to any Web-based course content, if you bookmark the site. 

It is necessary for your system to have pop up windows enabled to view Web-based course content and take exams.

USDA Employees

Proceed to the NRCS eLearning Center to login using your WebCAAF eAuthentication ID and password.  This is the same as your WebTCAS ID and password.

Customers (including TSPs) and Partner Employees

If you are anticipating becoming a Technical Service Provider please review the entire process at TechReg.  Please familiarize yourself with this process if you have not already done so.  Specific instructions on securing a USDA user account and password are located at getting started.

The General Public

As a member of the general public you may enroll only in the Web-based courses with a level 1 account. To enroll in self-study courses where materials are mailed to you, you must establish a Level 2 accounts with USDA.
