Introduction to Conservation Forestry Planning  (000160)

Overview

This course complements and builds on the Natural Resources Conservation Service's Conservation Planning Course. The scope of the modules includes conservation planning and application on forest land and the integration of forest technology on other land uses. This scope is referred to as “Conservation Forestry.” Training focuses on procedures, tools and processes used to deliver conservation technical assistance.

Objectives

Upon completion of the training, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the opportunities for integrating forestry technology into conservation planning.
  • List and describe pre-planning activities.
  • List and describe the appropriate tools and techniques for all phases of conservation planning.
  • List and describe key resource problems and concerns.
  • Identify key objectives based on a client interview.
  • Compare resource inventory data with established quality criteria and desired client objectives to refine the list of key resource concerns.
  • Identify conservation practices that will improve conditions to meet quality criteria and client objectives.
  • Formulate and evaluate resource management system alternatives integrating applicable conservation practices and measures that deal with conservation forestry issues.
  • Formulate a conservation plan, specifications and an implementation schedule based on client decisions.
  • List and describe the kinds and scope of technical assistance that can be provided to implement practices.
  • Describe and evaluate the effects of the resource systems applied and the potential need for plan/practice revisions..

    Parts I, II, and III of Conservation Planning.

    Enrollment instructions are provided below.  Be sure to select the appropriate link to ensure successful enrollment. 

    USDA Employees

    Proceed to the Aglearn to login using your USDA eAuthentication ID and password.  This is the same as your WebTCAS ID and password.
    Select Catalog, Select Natural Resources Conservation Service under Subject Area Menu, Choose the course name by select the button Launch content or Add to Learning Plan to register and complete the course.

    District Employees with Aglearn account

    Proceed to the Aglearn to login using your USDA eAuthentication ID and password. This is the same logon ID and password used for the TechReg TSP application or profile.
    Select Catalog, Select Natural Resources Conservation Service under Subject Area Menu, Choose the course name by select the button Launch content or Add to Learning Plan to register and complete the course.

    If you do not have an account.  Specific instructions on securing a USDA user account and password are located at getting started.  For further assistance contact the USDA state office in your state for assistance in obtaining an eAuthentication ID and password and AgLearn account.
