Conservation Buffers (000126)

Overview

This course provides 16 hours of training on conservation buffer practice design in the classroom over a 2- or 3-day period. At the option of the host site, field trips/exercises may be added. State-of-the-art aspects of selecting, locating, designing, installing and maintaining conservation buffers will be covered. Modules on program delivery and communication also are included, as well as formulation of post-course strategies and expectations for participants.

Objectives

Upon completion of this training, participants will be able to:

  • recognize impaired conditions that conservation buffers can address
  • select, locate, and design conservation buffers to solve problems, meet landowner objectives, and fit within existing and planned management systems
  • recognize aspects of available incentive programs to extend the use of buffer technology
  • identify and overcome differences between programmatic and technical requirements related to conservation buffers
  • articulate a vision for using buffers in back-home locales and develop a communication strategy

Duration

2- or 3-day formats, including optional field trips/exercises.

Target Audience

Conservation farm and ranch planners who are wanting to use conservation buffer technology effectively, including field-office personnel from NRCS and conservation districts, state agency personnel, NGO representatives, and private-sector personnel (industry, farm managers, consultants, vendors).
