NASIS – Site/Pedon Data (NRCS-NEDC-000183)
Overview
This training will provide soil scientists with skills needed to perform entry and management of site/pedon data using the NASIS software, and/or WinPedon software. Objectives
Upon completion of this training, participants will be able to:
- Know the difference between aggregated and point data.
- Understand the site vs. pedon concepts, and related site and pedon data
- Be familiar with basic database structure and content as related to point data.
- Know the relationship of point data objects to other data objects in nasis, and how to make the appropriated connection between them.
- Be able to input and manage site, pedon, transect, and temporal data using standard conventions.
- Be able to perform calculations and validations applicable to point data.
- Be able to query the database and generate standard reports using existing scripts.
Prerequisites and Recommendation
Basic NASIS training plus a working understanding of data objects, selected sets, data security, and data editing in NASIS.
Duration
3 days.
Eligibility
Any National Cooperative Soil Survey partner.
Equipment and Materials
For each participant:
- NASIS Getting Started – Chapters 18 & 19
- NASIS Data Structure Diagrams
- An X-terminal or equivalent emulator (Hummingbird) which is connected to a NASIS system and capable of running NASIS (at least one terminal for every two participants)
- A login on the NASIS computer, and in NASIS itself
