NASIS – Basic (NRCS-NEDC-000180)
Overview
This training will provide soil
scientists with skills needed to perform basic soil survey data entry
and management using the NASIS software.
Objectives
Upon completion of this training, participants will be able to:
- perform NASIS software interface navigation and operation procedures.
- explain basic NASIS data concepts.
- explain the difference between aggregated and point data.
- explain the basic database structure and content.
- perform soil survey data population and management using standard conventions.
- perform data calculations and validations.
- query the database, generate standard reports, and export data using existing scripts.
- write basic queries.
- use the NASIS online HELP system.
Prerequisites and Recommendation
Basic knowledge of soil survey data and procedures.
Duration
4 days.
Target Audience
National Cooperative Soil Survey soil scientists and other discipline
specialists who have a need for understanding and using NASIS.
Equipment and Materials
For each participant:
- NASIS Getting Started
- NASIS Data Structure Diagrams
- An X-terminal or equivalent emulator (Hummingbird) which is connected to a NASIS system and capable of running NASIS (at least one terminal for every two participants)
- A login on the NASIS computer, and in NASIS itself
