NEDC and eLearning

Our Learning Management System (LMS) called Aglearn.  The selected vendor is Plateau Learning Management Systems.  A learning management system (LMS) is a software application or Web-based technology, which is used to catalog and distribute eLearning and to manage the training function.

Using technology to deliver training is gaining in popularity for a number of reasons including lower costs.  The NEDC is the focal point for eLearning in the NRCS.  We are working with a number of entities in NRCS to produce Web-based courses and Web-based tests.

These Web-based learning opportunities and tests are developed using Adobe Captivate, Microsoft FrontPage, ToolBook authoring software, Questionmark Perception, Adobe Authorware, Flash Professional, Adobe Dreamweaver.  Several staff members are trained in the use of the software.

A relatively new concept in instructional design is "blended learning" where a number of delivery options are blended together to produce an approach that is effective and efficient.  A thorough discussion of blended learning is found below.

We also offer a Web-based overview and resources for Instructional Systems Design.
