Training Officer Information

The National Employee Development Center (NEDC) is accepting enrollments for the 2009 Conservation Boot Camp (CBC) sessions from states with reserved slots for FY-09. (See attached spreadsheet). The enrollment deadline for reserved slots is January 1, 2009. After February 8, enrollment for the sessions will be open to all states. Remember there is a $7000.00 tuition for CBC. Additional instructions for paying tuition cost will be provided at that time. All enrollments are on a first come first serve basis.

The location of the CBC sessions has yet to be determined. Dates and session numbers are:

  • April 14-30, 2009
  • May 5-21, 2009
  • June 2-18, 2009
  • July 7-25, 2009
  • August 14-30, 2009
Remember that National Bulletin 360.7.28 states that reserved seats are non refundable and will not carry over into FY-10. States with FY-09 reserved slots do have the flexibility to sell them to other states.

Boot Camp Prerequisites

The following courses are prerequisites for CBC and should be completed prior to participants attending their session. Each course is approximately 1-2 hours in length. Supervisors should be notified of this requirement so time is allowed for the employee for completion.

  • Conservation Planning, Part 1 (NRCS-NEDC-000019)
  • Cultural Resources Training Series, Part 1 (NRCS-NEDC-000141)
  • Environmental Compliance for Conservation Assistance (NRCS-NEDC-000190)
  • Introduction to NRCS (NRCS-NEDC-000008)
  • Introduction to the Field Office Technical Guide (FOTG)(NRCS-NEDC-000149)
  • Introduction to Conservation Forestry Planning (NRCS-NEDC-000195)
  • Air Quality, Climate Change, and Energy
Adding Curriculum to CBC Participants Learning Plan

These courses have been put into a curriculum along with the CBC course. You will need to add the curriculum to the employee’s learning plan. The curriculum id is NRCS-NEDC-BOOTCAMP. Instructions for adding the curricula are attached.

Once the curriculum is on the employees learning plan, he/she can then request the training session of their choice. (Note the request from the employee will still go through the approval process.) I have also attached instructions on the students’ responsibilities.
