Information for Potential Conservation Boot Camp Instructors

The National Employee Development Center (NEDC) is looking for are a few good instructors to teach Conservation Boot Camp (CBC) in 2009.  The course is three weeks long, starting on a Tuesday and ending on Thursday of the third week.   Each session consists of 13 days of training with approximately six days in the classroom and seven days in the field.   The sessions will start in April/May and run through August/September.

The training covers the basic sciences and tools needed to carry out the “conservation planning process”.  It focuses on interaction with decision makers in the planning process.  At the end of the training, the participants should be able to guide decision makers through the Agency’s conservation planning process while complying with national policy.  See Boot Camp Tasks for a complete list of the course content.

Conservation Boot Camp is important training to the Agency and deserves the very best instructors we have to deliver this training.  We are seeking experienced employees at the field and area levels who are currently engaged in, or supporting conservation planning.   Being a CBC instructor will require a minimum of six to nine weeks of your time consisting of:

  • One week of training on adult instructional and presentation skills,
  • two weeks of training/preparation time
  • one or two 3-week sessions of CBC. The sessions will not be back to back.  NEDC will work with you to schedule them where they would best fit into your current work schedule.

You will be working with a team of four other instructors in delivering the training. Complete lesson plans, equipment, and other course materials needed to deliver the course will be furnished.

NEDC will pay all your expenses, including salary, for the time you are an instructor. If you are nominated by your state conservationist you will be contacted by NEDC.
